McDonald’s Introduces Cash Kiosks Amid Rising Costs!
Sanjana B | September 24, 2024
McDonald’s is introducing new digital kiosks that accept cash and provide change, enhancing customer options beyond the credit-only kiosks launched in 2020.
A spokesperson noted these changes aim to improve speed and accuracy for franchisees without reducing staff; instead, workers will be reassigned to other tasks. Rising labor costs are prompting many restaurants to adopt automation, with California's $20 minimum wage driving demand for kiosks.
Currently, only 2% of McDonald’s franchisees have opted for these cash-accepting kiosks. Digital orders, including app and kiosk sales, accounted for over 40% of McDonald’s revenue last year, underscoring the chain’s digital focus.
